Strategic Flood Risk Assessment
A Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) assesses the risk of flooding from all sources, the cumulative impact that development or changing land use would have on the risk of flooding, and the effect of climate change on risk. An SFRA will help various parties consider flood risk when making planning decisions and will also form part of the evidence base for local plans.
Greater Manchester Level 1 Strategic Flood Risk Assessment
In 2018 The Greater Manchester Combined Authority, on behalf of the ten Greater Manchester councils, commissioned JBA Consulting to undertake a GM-wide Level 1 SFRA to support the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework (which later became Places for Everyone). A further Level 2 SFRA was commissioned in 2019 to assess the high-risk sites identified through the Level 1 SFRA.
The relevant parts of the Level 1 SFRA for Tameside can be viewed below. Electronic copies of the documents that are not available to view online can be requested by sending us a message using the link at the bottom of this page.

Greater Manchester Strategic Flood Risk Management Framework
The strategic flood risk management framework provides a spatial framework for flood risk management across Greater Manchester. It is a high-level strategy focused on the management of flood risk issues that are of importance to the Manchester City Region.
The local flood risk management strategy for Tameside can be found here.
Greater Manchester Level 2 Strategic Flood Risk Assessment
The Level 2 SFRA builds on the findings of the Level 1 SFRA. It assesses the high-risk sites identified through the Level 1 SFRA.
