Weedspraying 2024

Our weed spraying teams are currently in operation; we have four quad bike teams spraying hard surfaces, whilst hard-to-reach areas are being sprayed by our pedestrian manual teams with knapsacks.  We use Round-up 360 and Nomix Dual on the adopted highways throughout the borough. All recommendations and guidelines are actively adhered to, ensuring safe and effective weed control.  This season we are a bit behind on the weedspraying programme – the wet weather and some sunshine are perfect conditions for weeds to grow however they also prevent us from spraying as we don’t spray when it is raining or when its due to rain as this greatly reduces the effectiveness of the chemical we use.  We are trying to catch up and we are using all the resources we have whilst still ensuring that we cut the grass, litter pick and remove fly tipping.

We do not use glyphosate in parks and countryside sites unless it is to deal with invasive species such as Japanese Knotweed.  We have a great group of Greenspace Volunteers who look after the parks and countryside of Tameside throughout the year and in the summer we have a Volunteer Footpath Team who go out and strim and cut back popular paths to ensure they are accessible without using chemicals.  We welcome new volunteers and you can find out more here: Volunteering in your Community - Tameside MBC

Our Weed-spraying policy is currently available on the Councils website Highways Weedspray Programme - Tameside MBC
