We Asked

To meet the criteria for enforcing moving traffic offences in Tameside, the Council was required to consult with residents and seek approval from the Secretary of State.

As part of this process, residents were invited to respond to a series of four traffic-related questions, along with two specific questions regarding proposed yellow box junction road markings at:

  • Market Street / Greenside Lane, Droylsden
  • Manchester Road / Moss Way, Ashton-under-Lyne

Details of the proposed schemes are available in Appendix 1 and Appendix 2.

The consultation ran for six weeks, from 15 July 2024 to 27 September 2024, and included the following engagement methods:

  • Social media promotions
  • Publication in the Tameside Citizen newspaper, delivered to most homes and businesses across the borough
  • Online questionnaire via Survey Monkey
  • Targeted emails, as required by the Secretary of State

The Survey Monkey questionnaire received the highest engagement, with 264 responses submitted.

Responses to the two questions regarding the yellow box junctions can be found in Appendix 3 and Appendix 4.

We Did

Following the consultation, the council reviewed all feedback received and presented a report to the council’s Executive Cabinet meeting on the 30 July 2025 (see link and Appendix 3 and Appendix 4).   This report provided an update on the outcome of the public consultation and obtained approval to submit an application, as prescribed by the Secretary of State, for powers under Part 6 of the Traffic Management Act 2004.
