At Team Tameside, we are dedicated to maintaining a safe, healthy and well working environment where you are resilient and can thrive, flourish and achieve. Our wellbeing offer is designed to support your work-life balance so that you can best take care of your wellbeing both in and out of work.
This offer includes a wide range of resources and initiatives, such as awareness events, mindfulness sessions, access to Health & Wellbeing Champions, Mental Health First Aiders, Occupational Health Services, and an Employee Assistance Programme. We also offer discounted healthcare cover through the Birmingham Hospital Saturday Fund (BHSF) starting from just £5 a month and Simply Health from £12 a month.

Flexible Working
We understand that work - life balance is important and so working flexibly is encouraged where possible.
We have policies and procedures that assist us in supporting our employees to find a healthy balance that works for both the individual and the needs of the business.
From day one we welcome applications for flexible working including compressed hours and a 9-day fortnight working pattern.
In addition, we have generous schemes covering maternity, paternity, adoption leave and career breaks to enable you to maintain a happy and healthy work - life balance through all stages of life.
Annual Leave
At Tameside Council we offer a generous annual leave allowance of up to 31 days, dependent upon grade and length of service, plus bank holidays. In addition, we offer the option to purchase additional annual leave of up to 20 days! (pro-rata for part-time staff).
Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment
Tameside Council has signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment to ensure service-related benefits are available to you. Continuous or ‘unbroken’ service from any Greater Manchester local authority or NHS organisation, Transport for Greater Manchester, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service or Greater Manchester Combined Authority will be classed as continuous where there is no more than a 7-day break.
Pensions
Here at Tameside Council, we are passionate about supporting your hopes and ambitions in your worklife and beyond. We want to enable you to plan for your future and reach your retirement goals.
We will automatically enrol you into our Local Government Pension Scheme which is the largest LGPS fund and the eleventh biggest defined benefit pension fund in the UK. Click here for more information.
Additionally, you have the option to top up your pension with Shared Cost additional Voluntary Contributions as part of a salary sacrifice scheme saving you on National Insurance and tax contributions all from your first day of employment.

Career Development
We recognise the continuous need for learning and have a comprehensive Workforce Development Programme. At Tameside Council we are committed to supporting you with opportunities to develop your skills, knowledge and experience to thrive in your role and be the difference.
Our programme is tailored to suit all from our ILM Assured Leadership & Management Development Programme, Aspiring Leaders Programme, free access to around 200 online training courses as well as cross-functional learning to expand skills set.
In addition, we have a suite of bespoke training sessions delivered by our in-house Workforce Development Team to enhance and develop your skills and knowledge to enable you to be the best version of yourself.
Networks

Our Employee Network’s offer platforms for you to connect with other employees over shared identities or interests to ensure you feel valued and connected, whilst providing opportunities for early consultation on organisational incentives or processes.

Managers Network

Our Managers Network is a dynamic space designed to empower, connect and support leaders across our organisation. It provides a platform to connect with peers, share knowledge and great leadership & management practices, stay informed with regular updates on upcoming policies, processes and organisational priorities – as well as shape how we lead and manage at Team Tameside.
Employee Forum
Our Employee Forum is a collaborative space where staff from all services and levels come together to share ideas, contribute insights and influence positive change across the organisation. It’s designed to foster open, two-way communication between employees and leadership, ensuring everyone feels heard, valued and empowered as part of Team Tameside.
What makes our forum unique is its direct impact on decision-making. We bring ideas to the table, gather your input, develop projects based on that feedback, and return with the final product to ensure it reflects the conversation we had. This approach helps shape meaningful improvements in how we work and the services we deliver.
By participating, employees help build a stronger workplace culture, enhance the employee experience, and contribute to delivering high-quality public services for the people who live and work in Tameside. The forum builds trust, encourages innovation and strengthens the connection between staff and the Council’s wider goals.

Discounted Staff Parking
We believe in making life easier for our employees and offer a discounted car park pass. The pass covers stipulated car parks throughout the borough allowing for hybrid work patterns. The cost of the pass is £20.83 per month for a 5-day pass that is issued to cover any pattern of workdays.
Green Travel
To support the council’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, Team Tameside is encouraged to choose greener ways of travelling both in and out of work from your first day of employment.
We offer a cycle to work salary sacrifice scheme to enable employees to purchase a bike, Including the option of an e-bike, up to the value of £5,000!
Also on offer is a car lease salary sacrifice scheme providing Team Tameside with competitively priced and trouble-free motoring along with numerous benefits including insurance for the main driver and up to four passengers, routine servicing, breakdown cover and windscreen replacement cover.
