Paul’s career takes off
Despite his enthusiasm and willingness to work, Routes to work client Paul had historically faced challenges in securing and maintaining paid employment.
Paul was referred to Routes to Work, our supported employment service which helps people who face barriers to employment due to a disability or health condition, to explore job and employment opportunities.
After Paul was matched with an Employment Officer, they worked together to create a personalised employment action plan considering Paul’s strengths, interests, and career aspirations. Paul was also supported to update his CV and develop his interview techniques by participating in mock interviews, helping improve his responses and increase his confidence.
Paul had always had a desire to work at Manchester Airport so focused his job search in this area. Paul found a position that matched his skillset and experience at World of Duty Free and with support from his Employment Officer, submitted an application and was quickly invited to interview. With his increased confidence, Paul attended the interview and was successful in securing the position.
In the final step in the process Paul was supported by his Employment Officer to navigate the rigorous airport recruitment and security process so that he could apply for a grant from Access to Work to help with his travel to work costs.
When we caught up with Paul – he said:” I am so grateful for Routes to Work for helping me get my dream job working in World of Duty Free at Manchester Airport, I feel like I have finally found my purpose in life”.
