Droylsden Town Centre
Creating a masterplan for Droylsden
Plans to start to shape a masterplan for Droylsden are moving forward following acceptance of £100,000 in Homes England and Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) Evergreen funding.
The external funding will support activity and will enable the start of plans to shape Droylsden into a more vibrant town centre.
The creation of a masterplan will help join Droylsden Shopping Centre and the Greenside Lane Retail Park currently owned by New Era, which are intrinsically linked with the Council-owned Concorde Suite building. As well as focusing on movement and public realm improvements, the masterplan will look to help facilitate long-term solutions for various town centre sites by maximising the investment made in recent years on the GM Pension Fund Head Office, Droylsden Library, Metrolink, Medlock Active, the former Jam Works site and Fairfield Road site, and Droylsden Marina.
The masterplan will outline short, medium and long-term goals for the wider town centre, which will span over 20 years enabling the Council to seek further investment and funding options to be able to implement the plan and then deliver the vision for a sustainable future for Droylsden.
Opportunity to have your say
We are currently looking for residents, businesses and visitors to share their ideas for a more vibrant town centre for Droylsden and have launched a public survey to draw feedback and views from the local community and stakeholders to help shape both its short and long-term future.
The creation of the masterplan for Droylsden will be the first step. The council would then need to look to seek further funding and support for outlined plans and actions identified in the masterplan.
A consultant team led by OPEN (Optimised Environments) including national agency Social Communications, are working closely with us, leading on shaping the vision and plan, and are keen to find out what residents of all ages, alongside stakeholders and community groups, really think of and want to see in the town. We are currently developing a plan which aims to enhance community spaces, celebrate canals and historic assets, and improve town centre safety using feedback from the people who live and work in the town.
Views on the emerging proposals are needed to help ensure the aims and vision are in line with both community and key stakeholder aspirations.
The survey is open online until 18 October at www.droylsdentowncentre.co.uk and the proposals are also displayed at Droylsden Library with a suggestion box for collecting comments during opening hours.
