Writing Underlined at Ashton Library's Local Authors Day

Ashton Library's Local Authors DayDO you have the write stuff? They say there’s a novel in all of us and the ideal chance to find out is Tameside Libraries’ first Local Authors Day which takes place at Ashton Library on Saturday October 26 (10.30am to 2.30pm).

Not only does it feature exciting panels and book signings, it’s entirely free to attend and no booking is necessary.

The authors who’ll be attending include David Beckler, Heather Burnside, Caroline England, Dolores Gordon-Smith, Joan Harthan, Keith Healicon, Mark Henderson, Michael Holbrook, Johanne Lee, Simon Michael, Chris McDonald-Frost, Bonnie Meekums, Sophie Parkes and JA Winterford.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the authors, buy signed copies of their books, and gain insight into the writing process.

The panel discussions are:

Folklore, Fantasy, and Local Tales: Discover how folklore and local history inspire writing, blending the mythical with the familiar.

New Writers: Hear what the authors had to do to get their first works published and their experiences in the literary world.

Research and Reality – Historic v Contemporary Crime Fiction: Explore the role of research in crafting compelling crime fiction, from historical tales to modern-day urban mysteries.

Urban Crime: A discussion with authors who dive into gritty city settings, focusing on crime narratives set in Manchester and other urban landscapes.

Cllr Sangita Patel, Tameside Council’s assistant executive member for culture, heritage, participation and sport, said: “Local Authors Day is a celebration of local literary talent and a must-attend event for any book lover, aspiring writer, or member of the community with a passion for storytelling.

“It offers a rare chance to meet published authors and take part in some insightful panel discussions. Any would-be authors – and I know there are many in Tameside – will want to be there.”
