Our streets day of action tackles waste and community safety concerns

Press Release: 15/07/2024

Our streets day of actionWaste enforcement and community safety officers joined forces with local councillors on an Our Streets day of action in the Stalybridge North ward.

The day focussed on fly tipping hotspots on Knowl Street and areas off Ridge Hill Lane.

Officers and members worked to clear up litter and dumped waste while also speaking to local residents to offer advice on waste issues or any community safety concerns. Enforcement officers also looked for evidence of who may be responsible for waste that had been dumped in the street.

Our streets day of actionThe day of action, held on 10 July, was part of Tameside Council’s ongoing Our Streets campaign to work with the local community to help make Tameside, cleaner, greener and safer. So far this year, the council has issued 207 fixed penalty notices and successfully carried out six prosecutions in relation to waste offences.

Tameside Council Assistant Executive Member Cllr Hugh Roderick, who is responsible for enforcement, said: "These days of action raise the profile of how all of us can help improve our communities, but they are only one aspect of our work; officers are out every day cleaning our streets and clearing up dumped waste. There is no excuse for flytipping and we will always take action against those responsible where we find evidence.

Our streets day of action"We all have a part to play in making our neighbourhoods cleaner and safer and days of action like this help to put the spotlight on our every day work with communities to tackle concerns relating to waste and other issues. Thank you to the officers for their hard work, to everyone who takes pride in their local communities and to those who work with us in looking after our streets."
