Have your say on Tameside’s local plan for the future

Press Release: 11/07/2024

Everyone who lives, works, and studies in Tameside is invited to have their say to help create the final piece of the local plan for the borough which will shape planning policy for the next 15 years.

Tameside’s Local Plan is not just one document, it is made up by policies from four plans. Homes, Spaces, Places, is the final document in the local plan which will add to the already adopted Places for Everyone, Minerals and Waste Plans and set out a complementary vision, strategy, and range of policies for the future of the whole of Tameside.

Homes, Spaces, Places, will provide the locally important detail where this is missing from the other already adopted plans and set out the local vision for the future of Tameside, playing a key role in shaping towns, infrastructure, environment, and the economy, for every resident and business.

The seven themes contained within the plan include town centres, homes, jobs, people, travel, places, and environment. The Council is calling on residents, businesses, and stakeholders to comment on their thoughts and what they want the future Tameside to look like, adding suggestions and feedback which will help to shape the plan. During the process, people are also being asked to put forward suggested land in the borough that has the potential for future development or that should be protected in a call for sites.

Cllr Laura Boyle Executive Member (Housing, Homelessness, Planning, Transport & Connectivity) said: “We want to make sure that the plan reflects the needs of the whole of the borough so that it can support the creation of jobs, affordable homes, make travel easier but also consider what our towns and communities need and how we can do all of that and look after the environment too.”

“It’s vital that everyone takes the opportunity to feedback on the plans at this stage so that we can shape a Tameside for tomorrow that we can all continue to be proud of.”

The consultation is now open until 16 September 2024, and you can complete the survey at www.tameside.gov.uk/homesspacesplaces.
