Funding boost and extension for successful Tameside in Work project

A Tameside project to support people into better jobs has proven so successful it is now being extended across Greater Manchester.
Tameside in Work, which is run by Tameside Council and funded by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) provides personalised, one-to-one support to help residents secure better jobs or increase their earnings.
So far, the initiative has successfully helped 158 individuals find new employment and engaged with over 375 residents in Tameside.
Due to its success, GMCA is now planning to expand the scheme across Greater Manchester and, as part of this, Tameside in Work will receive an additional £400,000 in funding, allowing the service to reach even more people and continue supporting local low-income residents and households for another two years.
Councillor Jack Naylor, Executive Member, Inclusive Growth, Business and Employment said: “Improving the job prospects and incomes for families across Tameside and finding better roles can be life changing, as it relieves financial strains and can also improve wellbeing and living standards. It also has a positive knock-on effect for employers as employees can feel happier, stable, and more motivated in their work.
“This project has a transformative impact on local families, helping them alleviate financial stress, improve well-being, and raise living standards. It also benefits employers by fostering a more motivated and stable workforce.
“The Tameside in Work team does a brilliant job providing invaluable support for low-income residents and families. The additional funding will allow us to go even further in helping more families achieve financial stability and career progression. The recognition for the service from GMCA and roll out across GM is a true testament to the support and hard work that the team have put in.”
