Families Benefit from Free Parenting Support

Press Release: 02/05/2024

Families across Tameside are reaping the benefits of the free online courses which are designed to improve the emotional health and wellbeing in parents, children, teenagers, adults, and grandparents.

The uptake of online parenting courses for first time users has reached a new high in the borough compared to other local authorities, according to the latest statistics.

The ‘Understanding your…’ courses cover a wide variety of topics including ‘relationships’, ‘your teenager’s brain’, and ‘your child with additional needs’.

There has also been an increase in male users in the borough to twice that of other local authorities, which demonstrates the value men are finding from the content.

A Tameside Council spokesperson said: “Our Parenting team do a fantastic job of ensuring families have access to the resources that will benefit them. Being able to offer helpful courses for free and knowing the difference they are making is an example of this and I’m delighted these are so readily available.”

Awareness of the parenting courses has increased following recommendations to families from the Council, education providers, midwifery and health services, and HomeStart.

Over the last five years there has been a 1434% increase in online users, and a 229% increase in new monthly users.

There are 15 courses available covering antenatal, postnatal, children and young people, teenagers, and adults, all of which can be viewed in the language of preference for families. Those interested can visit inourplace.co.uk using the access code SUNFLOWER.
