Armed Forces Day Back on Parade for 2024
Press Release: 05/06/2024
ARMED Forces Day is marching back to Denton on Saturday 29 June for Tameside’s annual salute to the borough’s service personnel past, present and future.
Proceedings start at noon when the Civic Mayor, Cllr Betty Affleck, hosts a veterans’ lunch at Denton Civic Square where she and other dignitaries will offer personal thanks to those who have served in the forces.
From 1 to 4pm, the usual festival of fun and entertainment takes place around the bandstand in Victoria Park.
As well as live music, there will be dance displays by local schools, and a range of activities for children and adults alike, including climbing walls, inflatable axe throwing, face painting, arts, crafts and much more.
Also in attendance will be support services and community organisations, showing how they can offer assistance.
Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon from Victoria Park Community Centre.
Cllr Hugh Roderick, Tameside Council’s armed forces champion, said: “Our Armed Forces Day celebration isn’t only for people who have been in the army, navy or air force. It’s a fun event for the whole family and there are lots of activities on offer.
“So join us at Victoria Park to celebrate our borough’s long and close relationship with the services and to say a thank you for all that they have done and continue to do for us.”
If you’re a veteran living in the borough, you can get updates on events and support available to you by registering with TASC (Tameside Armed Services Community) here https://tamesideasc.org.uk/join. In addition, if you’re a veteran who hasn’t received an invitation to the Armed Forces Day event and would like to attend the civic luncheon, please email events@tameside.gov.uk.
Please note that as there is limited parking in the streets around Victoria Park, the nearest pay and display car park is situated on Queen Street.
