OKE
Oke are a parent run support group for families living in the Tameside area who have a child/young person with special needs/disability. We're a one-stop shop for families to get help, advice and support. We also offer families access to a range of activities and events throughout the year for the whole family
Council For Disabled Children
The Council for Disabled Children helps disabled children and young people and those with special educational needs to have full and happy childhoods, to fulfil their potential and be active within the community.
Jargon buster
The Council for Disabled Children provide a jargon buster guide which helps people to understand specialist terms related to SEND.
Disabled Schools Allowance
The Disabled Schools allowance helps students who have learning difficulties, health problems or disabilities.
Together Trust: SENDIASS
SENDIASS offer free, confidential and impartial support to children and young people with SEND, their parents and carers.
Independent Parental Special Education Service (IPSEA)
The Independent Parental Special Education Service (IPSEA) offers free and independent legally based information, advice and support to help get the right education for children and young people with all kinds of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTI)
The NDTI are a social change organisation working to enable people at risk of exclusion, due to age or disability, to live the life they choose.
The National Autistic Society
The National Autistic Society is the UK’s leading charity for autistic people and their families. They provide support, guidance and advice and campaign for improved rights, services, and opportunities to help create a society that works for autistic people.
Byte
Byte is an organisation that specialises in oral health as well as orthodontic care. They are an American based company however, they provide great resource information that will help advise parents with children or young people with developmental disabilities on oral health problems including tooth decay, gum disease and dental injury. The links below take you to two educational dental care guides: one for those with developmental disabilities and another more specifically for those with Autism.
Mencap
Mencap have set up their Family Engagement Project in Tameside. The project focuses on engaging with and providing peer support/signposting to parents and caregivers of children with SEND or emerging needs aged 0-5 years. Mencap’s purpose is to work with families to build a community where they and their children can thrive. You can contact Laura Walton at laura.walton@mencap.org.uk or by mobile on 07815 483266. Tameside has a range of innovative short breaks which are commissioned for children with more complex needs
Childline
Childline provide information, advice and support on a variety of problems, whatever’s on your mind. They will guide and support you to make decisions that are right for you.
Children with Disabilities Team (CWD)
The service comprises of Health and Social Care staff who offer treatment and support to young people with an additional need and / or complex health need.
Health Mentors
NHS health mentors re here to support young people and their families. They offer advice on issues that you may face as you get older.
