STATUTORY NOTICE OF PROPOSALS
PROPOSALS TO ESTABLISH SEN UNITS
NOTICE IS GIVEN in accordance with section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 and the School Organisation (Prescribed Alterations to Maintained Schools) Regulations that the Council are proposing changes to the following schools to establish SEN Units.
Alder High School Mottram Old Road Hyde SK14 5NJ
St Marys RC Primary School Kynder Lane Denton M34 2AR
Stalyhill Infant School Stalyhill Drive Stalybridge SK15 2TR
The Council has an ambition that children within the borough should have a school place as close to home as possible which is able to meet their individual learning needs, and as many children as possible have a suitable place within a mainstream setting. The Units are proposed to open in September 2025 for children with an Education Health and Care Plan. Each Unit will provide 12 places.
The number of children with an EHCP in Tameside has increased significantly. The establishment of the SEN Units is part of a wider plan to create 143 SEN Unit places for pupils aged 5 – 16 from September 2025. Targeted provision through SEN Units is more specialist than mainstream schools, providing a higher level of support for children and young people with SEND.
This Notice is an extract from the complete proposal. The full proposal can be found here:
