Stamford Drive, Stalybridge
The Bee Network, unveiled in 2018, is a plan to revolutionise travel across Greater Manchester, making active travel the number one choice for travelling to work, to school and to the shops. This can only happen if trips on foot or by bike are a safe and pleasant experience.
We are looking to make some changes in the Stalybridge / Ashton area, with the aim of helping to make the neighbourhood safer and more pleasant to help encourage more people to walk and cycle for short journeys.
The Stamford Drive to Granville Street scheme aims to improve the environment within the neighbourhood by reducing the volume and speed of vehicles on residential streets and by prioritising pedestrian and cycle movements, including a new signalised crossing of Clarence Street. In order to provide a good quality crossing and to reduce the volume of traffic on residential streets, the proposal is to close Frederick Street to motor traffic. Local traffic will be required to use Granville Street and Reyner Street (In only).
An initial consultation was held in 2020 to inform the initial design development process. A more detailed consultation was held between 12 December 2022 and 14 January 2023. The feedback provided at each stage has been used to inform and develop the current approved design.
The required Traffic Regulation Orders were advertised between 5 October and 2 November 2023. Nine objections were received to the advertised traffic orders and these were presented at Speakers Panel (Planning) on 14 February 2024. One change to the proposed scheme was presented to the panel, slightly reducing the extent of the proposed ‘No Waiting At Any Time’ restrictions (double yellow lines) on Clarence Street. The scheme was approved as presented.
