Support inclusive employment in Tameside

Are you an employer looking to build a more inclusive and diverse workforce? The Routes to Work – Wage Reimbursement Scheme offers financial and practical support to help you recruit local residents with a disability.

This initiative is part of Tameside Council’s commitment to promoting equality in the workplace and supporting residents into meaningful employment.

What the scheme offers:

  • 13-week trial employment period with full salary reimbursement (up to 36 hours/week).

  • No recruitment fees – just practical help and funding to support your business and the employee

  • Wage reimbursement: claim back salary costs for up to 36 hours per week, based on the national living wage
  • Tailored recruitment: we help match you with a suitable candidate, saving you time and effort
  • Workplace support: ongoing guidance for both you and your new employee

What’s expected from employers

To participate, you’ll need to:

  • Provide a safe and suitable workplace.
  • Commit to employing the individual for the 13-week period.
  • Pay at least the National Living Wage (or National Minimum Wage based on age).
  • Submit signed timesheets and payslips at agreed intervals.
  • Complete an application form and sign a declaration agreeing to the scheme’s terms.

The Council may carry out routine checks for auditing purposes.

  • Can provide a supportive and inclusive working environment.
  • Are willing to consider long-term employment beyond the trial period.
