You Said We Did - Neurodivergent Friendly Libraries
We Asked
We were looking for ways to improve the library service – via accessibility measures and improve event programming for Neurodivergent users. We were asking what type of accommodations and events would be a benefit, their frequency and building modifications they’d like to see, what barriers they’ve experienced etc.
You Said
Specific events such as creative sessions and careers events, as well as general events with neuroinclusive practices taken into account were asked for. Sensory friendly hours also.
“We Did”
From June 2025 we started the Neuroinclusive Libraries Project funded by Arts Council funding secured in part by the responses to the survey. We were awarded nearly £30,000 to put on a 12-month programme of events and make other accessibility alterations to libraries, including improved signage, quiet hours, resources and event promotion.
