Do you qualify for social housing?

If you are 16 or over and have a housing need you may qualify for social housing.

Not everyone qualifies for social housing.

You may qualify for social housing if:

• You are owed a duty under the homelessness legislation
• You are fleeing domestic abuse
• You need to move because of a disability of medical reason
• You need to move to care for a relative
• You live in overcrowded or unsanitary conditions

To access social housing, you need to apply to join the housing register. There are two housing registers you can join in Tameside. You can join either one but joining both gives you more options.

Please be aware that joining the housing register does not guarantee you social housing and you may have to wait a long time to get access to a home.
