Shared Lives
Shared Lives empowers adults with a range of needs to live or share the daily life of a Carer. People with physical or learning disabilities and mental health needs are supported to live an ordinary and independent life in their local community.
This support can be long-term, respite, or day support.
Supporting Independence
Many people involved in Shared Lives want to have access to activities in their community, breaks away from home or somewhere new to live.
They might not be able to manage on their own and need support to engage in their community, activities or to keep in contact with their family or friends. Those who need support may want to become more independent and develop their skills and confidence.
Maragret, John and Ausra’s Story
After Margaret received a diagnosis of vascular dementia, both her and husband John realised they needed extra support.
Margaret loves clothes shopping and going out for coffee with Ausra, her Shared Lives carer, something they both really enjoy.
Maragret said: “I look forward to Monday every week – those three hours with Ausra make such a difference.”
Ausra says that being a Shared Lives Carers is a ‘‘a meaningful and rewarding role. It gives my life a deeper sense of meaning and makes me a better person.''
This match is part of Live More, a pilot programme in partnership with Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership.
