An exciting one-of-a-kind Paint Jam session is taking place outside Ashton Town Hall for the August Super Saturday event.

Tameside Council is inviting residents and visitors to come along to a free family-friendly day to join the region’s top graffiti artists in creating large-scale artwork for the hoardings in Ashton Town Centre.

Taking place from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 15 August, the event will take place by the town hall hoardings, with activities centred in the space outside Ashton Library. The event will feature live painting, DJs, breakdancing, skateboarding demonstrations and a giant community doodle wall, offering plenty of opportunities for children and families to get creative and join in the fun.

Delivered by Art Battle Manchester in collaboration with Tameside Council’s Cultural Services, and street artist Jay Sharples, the day celebrates creativity, community and the exciting use of street art as an outdoor art gallery for everyone to enjoy.

Further Super Saturday events will also take place in September and October, bringing live music, seasonal activities, and themed family fun to Ashton. The town centre is undergoing huge transformation work with a new market square, designed to hold a variety of general and speciality markets, as well as cultural events to bring in residents and visitors and support local business.

Visitors can park for free for up to two hours in Tameside Council run car parks, before 6pm Monday to Saturday, remember to display your free ticket in your car.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Cllr Leanne Feeley said: “We can’t wait to bring back another Super Saturday event for residents to enjoy, after such a successful launch event last month. This month’s Super Saturday brings a fantastic opportunity for our residents to watch incredible murals and canvases come to life by the talented artists.”

“The event is part of a wider programme of events planned for the town - our vision is to create a wider food, cultural and leisure offer to move with the times and give shoppers and visitors more reasons to come into the town centre, support businesses and spend time here.”
