We Asked

Tameside Public Health launched Digital Weight Management Survey and consultation to hear from residents and professionals across Tameside how to make accessing weight management support easier, to support people to get the right help when they need it, via an online tool.

You Said

Just under 300 people participated to tell us what they would like to see and what would be important to them in an online weight management tool for Tameside. Common themes were for a tool to be:

  • Easy to use
  • A digital resource
  • Have questions around goals
  • Where possible based on individuals needs
  • Avoiding words/terms that are not compassionate to those living with unhealthy weight
  • Provide recommendations throughout or at the end of the tool based on the persons responses

“We Did”

Following on from the first survey, Public Health developed a digital weight management tool to test with residents.

Between April and May, people across Tameside tested survey, alongside professionals through an online webpage followed by a survey, as well as in person testing with community groups and residents.

The majority said the tool was easy to use and it would be something they would use. Many felt the tool was clear and words/terms used were clear and easy to understand.

A further positive was that many felt the tool was personalised to them and the majority said they would recommend the tool to others.

Public Health are in the process of refining the tool to ensure it works as a digital/online tool for people in Tameside to use. Taking careful consideration to ensure wording is compassionate, and support is offered throughout when using the tool e.g., additional information and weblinks to further support as well as contact weblinks and information for accessing services.
