Mortuary Services

The mortuary in Tameside is based at Tameside General Hospital and is run by Pennine Care NHS Trust.

The Mortuary handles deaths that have been referred to the Coroner or deaths where no death certificate can be issued.

Services include:
 • Receipt and storage of bodies under HM Coroner’s jurisdiction (H.M. Coroners Act 1988 & Coroners Rules 1984)
 • Assistance to forensic pathologists with autopsies
 • Facilities for viewing of bodies
 • Provision of information and advice
 • Participation in Greater Manchester Emergency Services major‑incident procedures in conjunction with police, armed forces, and health authorities
