The Droylsden Town Centre Masterplan has now been formally approved, marking a major milestone in the transformation of the town. This ambitious plan sets out a long-term vision to create a greener, more connected, and vibrant town centre. It has been shaped by the voices of Droylsden’s residents, businesses, and community groups.

A vision built together

Public involvement has been at the heart of this journey. Through consultation events, surveys, and workshops, local people helped shape the priorities and ideas that now form the foundation of the approved plan. Your feedback directly influenced key decisions — from the reopening of the Hollinwood Canal to the redesign of Droylsden Square and the future of the Concord Suite.

What’s happened so far

  • The draft masterplan was shared for public consultation in October 2024, including drop-in sessions.
  • Feedback from the community informed the final recommendations made by the consultant team.
  • The final masterplan was approved by Executive Cabinet and is now guiding future development.
  • A detailed study of the retail core, including the Concord Suite, is underway. Cushman & Wakefield have been appointed to lead this work.
  • Discussions with key stakeholders, including New Era (owners of Droylsden Shopping Centre), are ongoing.

What’s in the approved plan?

  • Reconnecting the town

Reopening the Hollinwood canal to link Droylsden Marina with the retail core, creating green, walkable routes.
  • Revitalising public spaces

Enhancing Droylsden Square and Villemomble Square with seating, planting, lighting, and space for events.
  • Improving accessibility

Safer walking and cycling routes across Manchester Road (A662), making the town centre easier to reach and enjoy.
  • Redeveloping key sites

Exploring redevelopment or demolition options for the Concord Suite and Droylsden Shopping Centre with stakeholders and the community.
  • Delivering quick wins

immediate improvements to public spaces and greening are already underway, with more to follow.
