Nutrition and Oral Health Award for carers of the under 5’s


This is a FREE award scheme which is aimed at all childcare providers (nurseries, playgroups, childminders and parents and tots groups) who provide healthy meals and/or snacks in Tameside.

Nutrition and Oral Health AwardIn order to achieve an award, a childcare provider needs to provide:
  • Meals (where appropriate) and snacks of a good nutritional standard which meet evidence based healthy eating/oral health guidelines.
  • A written food/oral health policy with involvement from staff and parents.
  • A written copy of your cycle of menus.
  • Promote regular play and physical activity.
  • Promote breast feeding and evidence based weaning practices.
  • Educational food/oral health related activities as part of the learning programme.

What are the benefits?

  • Parents can be confident that their children are receiving healthy, nutritious meals, snacks and drinks whilst in your care.
  • Award holders will receive a framed certificate to display and publicise their award.
  • All participants will receive a Food Nutrition and Oral Health resource pack and guidance from the guidance from the Children’s Nutrition Tea,.
  • Award holders will be publicised on local council’s websites and by Tameside NHS Foundation Trust.

This award has been developed by the Children’s Nutrition and Oral Health Improvement Teams of Tameside NHS Foundation Trust and is supported by the Children’s Centres and Early Years Provider Development Team.

This is a great opportunity to celebrate your existing good practice and give the children you care for the best start in life.
