Occupied only by Students
Dwellings Occupied only by Students, by School or College Leavers or by certain Spouses or Dependants of Students Any dwelling, which is occupied only by persons within the above categories (referred to as ‘relevant persons’), is exempt, and the exemption further applies where such persons are occupying the property concerned as term-time accommodation.
In this latter context, a dwelling is to be regarded as occupied by a relevant person as term-time accommodation during any vacation in which he or she holds a freehold or leasehold interest in, or a licence to occupy, the whole or any part of the dwelling and has previously used, or intends to use, the dwelling as term time accommodation. In the event that no right to occupy is retained at the end of a term, the exemption will cease until the qualifying conditions are again met, and the normal rules of liability will apply, subject to any period of exemption applicable to a ‘vacant’ dwelling under Class C
