Adult Social Care Mental Health Services empower people who are eligible for care and support because of their mental health needs.

Tailored Support

If you’re assessed as needing care and support, we will work alongside you and social care professionals like your social worker, to improve your wellbeing and promote recovery through your strengths.

Your social worker will always make sure to listen to what is important to you! Connecting you with lots of other useful services and local support, this could be links with services to help with employment, housing or local community groups or activities.

If you look after a loved one, the team can also connect you with Tameside Carers Centre so you get the support you’re entitled to.

If you are already supported by this team, Wellbeing Advisors are currently running group activities to support you, please get in touch with the team to find out more.

For further information, you can speak to our Adult Social Care Mental Health Team on 0161 342 3838

Approved Mental Health Professionals Service

Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHP) are responsible for assessments under the Mental Health Act (1983) (MHA) in Tameside, and in some cases outside Tameside.

An assessment may be arranged when someone is thought to be suffering from a mental disorder and poses a risk to themselves or others. A person is only detained if their treatment can’t be safely provided in the community and they’re unwilling (or unable) to agree to go into hospital. This decision is made by an AMHP and two registered doctors.

Service Transformation

We've recently reviewed the ways we can improve Tameside’s community mental health teams to make sure people have the best possible care and experience.

This just means:

  • People with mental health care needs will continue to be supported by mental health professionals working in the existing community mental health teams, provided by Pennine Care.
  • People with social care needs due to their mental health will be supported by new adult social care mental health services, provided by Tameside Council. This means people who find it difficult to manage life due to their mental health, so might be able to get help under the Care Act.
  • People who have both health and social care needs will be supported by both.

Please don't worry. If we need to change your key worker (previously called a care-coordinator), we’ll talk to you, answering your questions and providing the support you need.

There’s lots more information on these changes on Pennine Care’s webpage and a short summary video.
