Tameside’s Parenting Offer strives to support families when it is needed most. We offer a range of courses and services to suit the needs of all parents and children in Tameside.

The council's vision for our parenting offer is one where all parents, children, and their families will receive the support that is right for them as early as possible, to enable them to deal with problems and prevent issues escalating.

The parenting offer is based on a whole-family approach, and all support is evidence based. Our aim is to ensure families in Tameside have the skills, information, and support to build confidence, be happy, and support their children to achieve their potential.

Togetherness

PARENTING SUPPORT SESSIONS (FACE TO FACE)

Groups

Our groups are a space to have informal and open conversations about various topics, such as sleep, anger, and feelings. We invite you to join us and share with the group however sharing is not a requirement and if you’d prefer to sit and listen that is fine. We have Tea, Coffee, soft drinks and biscuits on offer at every session, and we welcome you to come and sit with us for 2 hours a week and lighten the load.

Togetherness 0-adulthood

The understanding your child is a group for parents, to help you understand your own feelings and your children’s feelings too. Topics are explored through conversations and are an opportunity for you to reflect on your experiences as a parent and come up with new strategies that will benefit you and your family. You are the expert on your child, and we will never tell you what to do as certain approaches may work for one family and not another. We are here to listen, offer advice and help in any way we can. Parents often gain support from one another too as our groups create a real sense of community. Groups are available for ante and post-natal, children 0-5, children of primary school age and children of secondary school age.

Togetherness SEND

Parenting a child with additional needs can bring unique rewards and unique pressures—we’re here to help you feel more confident and supported in your parenting. This group is designed to support you better understand your child’s world and how the important relationship you share can enable them to thrive. All of this is explored whilst taking into consideration your child’s individual needs.

Riding the Rapids

Riding the Rapids is a group for parents and carers of children who have a diagnosis of Autism, severe learning disabilities or other complex disabilities. It aims to help parents to understand and support their child’s behaviour, in the context of additional needs.

Research shows that parents and carers who attend Riding the Rapids can:

•             Develop effective strategies to promote wellbeing and change behaviour.

•             Increase their coping skills and confidence, reduce stress.

We are here to listen, offer advice and help in any way we can. Parents often gain support from one another too as our groups create a real sense of community. The sessions are a space to have informal and open conversations about various topics such as sensory profiles, crisis and personal goals.
