Moving Traffic Contraventions

Tameside Council wishes to apply to the Secretary of State requesting new powers to enforce ‘moving traffic contraventions’ as this will help it meet its highway network management duty by enabling improved enforcement with consequential benefits to road safety, congestion and air quality.

This means that, subject to approval, councils can be granted powers that have previously been held only by the police and will be able to issue fines to drivers for certain offences.

Two locations in the borough have been identified as suffering from a high number of moving traffic contraventions. These are:

  1. Market Street/Greenside Lane junction, Droylsden
  2. Manchester Road/Moss Way junction, Ashton-under-Lyne
